After moving to the U.S. from Vietnam in 2022, Mai made Fort Smith, Ark., his home and chose service as a way to give back. By joining the ARNG, he not only supported his community but also earned citizenship sooner than expected through the Military Naturalization Program.

Arkansas Army National Guard soldier Sgt. Jessica Aytch is a Human Resource Sergeant, but in her civilian life she is a Derby Girl. She is a member of the Rock Town roller derby team in Little Rock, Arkansas. Aytch uses her roller derby time as an extra form of physical exercise to help keep her at her best physically to stay in the guard. Aytch is also a first generation soldier. Fort Chaffee Hosts Emergency Management Exercise
The Aug. 21 event hosted by Fort Chaffee Joint Maneuver Training Center, of the Arkansas National Guard, served to highlight the constitutionally unique mission of the Guard as a dual-mission community based force. The Guard is not only charged with national defense, but responding to domestic emergencies in support of our fellow Arkansans and neighboring states. This exercise showcased the strong partnerships with local law enforcement agencies necessary to provide support during local emergencies.
