Unmanned aerial vehicle was on a training mission over Fort Chaffee when control lost
WHO:
The Arkansas Army National Guard
WHAT:
Lost contact with an unmanned aerial vehicle, called an RQ 7 Shadow
WHEN:
At approximately 11:30 a.m. Aug. 25
WHERE:
North of Fort Chaffee, Ark., near Lavaca.
WHY:
Soldiers in the Arkan sas National Guard were remotely piloting an RQ 7 Shadow on
a routine training mission over Fort Chaffee when they lost contact with the UAV The Arkansas
National Guard does not fly the RQ 7 purposely off the installation. The RQ 7 proceeded
outside the perimeter of Fort Chaffee and crashed a short time later. An Army National Guard
a viation investigation team has secured the mishap site and are recovering the aircraft There
are no injuries and there is no damage to property. The RQ 7 carri es no weaponry on board It
contains no toxic materials and its gross takeoff weight exceeds 4 60 pounds. The RQ 7 uses
a viation grade fuel
