5 Soldiers called to duty at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in NLR
~ Team will assist with internment operations, provide grounds maintenance
WHO: The Arkansas National Guard
WHAT: By order of the Governor, has ordered 5 Soldiers to state active duty
WHEN: May 20- 29, 2020,
WHERE: at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland Ave, North Little Rock, Ark.
WHY: One cemetery state employee on a grounds maintenance crew tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, the whole crew the employee worked with was put into at-home quarantine. The Soldiers will backfill that crew and operate heavy equipment to support internment operations at the cemetery. Additionally, the Soldiers will provide grounds maintenance around the facility between internment services.
The total number of Soldiers and Airmen on duty to support COVID-19 operations is 77, performing 11 Governor-directed missions.
The Arkansas National Guard assumes support roles to augment civil authorities, where needed and directed by the Governor, to help in a crisis.
